TURNER HUGHES ARCHITECTS is located on Sydney’s Lower North Shore. Established in 1991, we have fostered expertise with a broad range of building types and combine expertise in architecture, interior design and masterplanning.

We are structured to ensure each client retains a Director in a “hands on” capacity throughout the life of a project. Supported by a team of skilled architects and designers, we are able to deliver a comprehensive and professional service to all our clients at every stage of development.

We successfully service projects throughout Australia as well as internationally. Indeed, much of our work is outside Sydney or interstate. 

The team are all formally trained, offer experience, diversity and genuine enthusiasm for design.   

Richard Turner leads Turner Hughes Architects. Understanding the client’s needs and objectives and solid management are key to providing high quality design solutions.

Director

Rick has a wealth of experience and a business ethos valued and respected by our clients. Establishing “Richard Turner Architects” in 1991, Rick has developed sound, long term working relationships with many clients including blue-chip organisations, who demand a premium level of service; a service Rick (and THA) is able to deliver comprehensively.

With a focus on a comprehensive and complete architectural service, Rick prides himself on his ability to understand the problem at heart and to solve it without fuss. As a client you will be unaware of many difficult issues resolved with his utmost professionalism. 

Rick’s interests include running, golf, skiing and his farm in the Southern Highlands.

Matt Overton

Associate Director

Matt was named Associate Director in 2017 after the completion of several projects in the office. Including a number in the office’s specialisation of Media.

Graduating from the University of Technology, Sydney in 2001, Matt has worked on a range of large scale commercial and residential projects including office developments, apartments, aged care and student accommodation.

Matt has a keen interest in design, technology and its application and effects on the built environment. Which lends itself to the often technical nature of the office’s work.

We are able to provide a variety of planning and feasibility services. Our skills include site evaluation, opportunities and development constraints, development yield projections and space analysis.

Masterplanning & Design

Our primary focus is on the “end game”: the reason behind the project and what will make the outcome a success to our client. By fully understanding this concept, we are able to distill the essence of the problem at hand and deliver innovative and efficient design solutions that meet or exceed expectations.
